Remove Text Formatting

Paste rich or messy text and get clean plain text: strip styling, extra spaces, and line breaks.

Runs 100% in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

About removing text formatting

Copied text often arrives carrying baggage: stray HTML tags from a web page, double spaces from an old document, ragged indentation, or blank lines scattered through it. This tool strips that noise and gives you clean plain text. You choose which cleanups to apply, and the result updates as you type or paste. It all runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

What each option does

  • Strip HTML tags removes anything between angle brackets, so <b>bold</b> becomes bold. Useful when you copy from a page’s source or a rich editor that pasted markup.
  • Collapse extra spaces turns runs of two or more spaces into one, without touching your line breaks. This fixes the uneven spacing that justified documents and PDFs leave behind.
  • Trim each line removes leading and trailing spaces from every line, which cleans up indentation copied from code or email quotes.
  • Remove blank lines collapses empty lines so paragraphs sit together instead of being spread apart.
  • Remove all line breaks joins everything into one continuous line, which is what you want when a PDF or email broke a single sentence across several lines.

A note on pasted “rich” text

A plain textarea like the one above already drops fonts, colors, and bold when you paste, because it can only hold plain text. So the moment you paste into this tool, the visual styling is gone. The options then handle the second layer of mess: the leftover tags, spacing, and line breaks that plain text can still carry. Turn on only the cleanups you need, since removing all line breaks, for example, is helpful for a broken sentence but wrong for a list.
